Pirtle talks WKU offer

6-foot-3, 200-pound athlete is high on the Toppers, plans a return visit soon.

One of Western Kentucky's top recruiting priorities in the Jeff Brohm era is in-state prospects, signing 10 from Kentucky in the 2014 class alone.

So it's no surprise that DeSales athlete Bryant Pirtle is shaping up as a big target for the Toppers, earning an offer after camping with WKU last week.

"They said they loved me as a player and as a person," the rising senior said. "They also said under the right program I can become a great college player, and help get me to the next level.

"I was excited, I like WKU a lot. They're up there on my list."

Pirtle's only other offer currently is Morehead State, but he said he thinks Kentucky, Toledo and Eastern Michigan are all close to offering.

His remaining plans for the summer include camping at Tennessee, then a trip to WKU in July.

After the conclusion of those trips, could a commitment decision come shortly after?

"I guess when it feels right," Pirtle said. "Because right now I really want to focus on my team and the season, so we can have just as good--if not better--year than last year."

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound runningback/defensive end finished with 22.5 sacks and 66 tackles as a junior, also contributing 166 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 21 carries.
