Introducing: Jonathan Laurent

6-foot-6 wing holds several Division 1 offers, the latest from Western Kentucky.

With an early commitment from point guard Chris McNeal in their 2015 recruiting class, Western Kentucky is prioritizing other positions in July.

One of their latest offers, Dr. Phillips (Fla.) forward Jonathan Laurent, is already familiar with the program from a member of WKU's 2014 recruiting class.

"I got a call from one of their (WKU's) assistant coaches today, Coach David (Boyden)," Laurent said. "He told me they liked how I played and wanted to offer me.

"One of my friends goes to school there, Ayinde Sprewell, he's told me lots of good things about it. We used to play pickup ball together down here in Florida."

Playing for Southeast Elite (Fla.) this summer, Laurent caught the eye of WKU's coaching staff in the second July evaluation period, scoring 19 points in a 57-52 win over Hoop Dreams--a squad that features other Topper offers Aric Holman and Eli Wright.

Joining WKU on the wing's offer sheet is Georgia, South Carolina, Louisiana Tech and UCF, among others.

"Everybody's pretty even right now," Laurent said. "I really like Georgia right now, but outside of that everyone's pretty even.

"UCF, Georgia, La. Tech, UNC-Wilmington are all recruiting me pretty hard."

Like many prospects, Laurent is seeking early playing time--among other factors--from his potential schools.

"I'm looking for somewhere I can go and make an impact quickly," he said. "I just want to go somewhere that's probably losing their starting or backup wing, so I can come in and play quick, make an impact quickly.

"A school that likes to run too, a school that me and my parents like, a good atmosphere and basketball school."

Laurent plans to trim his list to five schools after the final live period, July 23-27, then take official visits to his final choices before signing his National Letter-of-Intent.

The schools that make his top five will be in the mix for a muscular wing who can get up and down the floor.

"I'm very athletic," Laurent said. "I like to run and jump, I'm a pretty good shooter with my feet set and I'm an okay shooter off-the-dribble.

"I'm a good passer, playmaker, good defensive player. I get after it.

"Still working on my ball-handling and my shooting. My decision making at times too, sometimes I can go to quick and make a bad play, sometimes need to slow down a bit."
