Southern Miss commit camps at WKU

Western Kentucky University football coach Jeff Brohm and his staff held a one-day camp on Saturday with more than 100 prospects, including Southern Mississippi offensive line commitment Dakota Birdyshaw. See what Birdyshaw had to say and what his future with the Hilltoppers might be:

With his commitment to Southern Mississippi over a month old, Jasper, Ala., Walker High School offensive lineman Dakota Birdyshaw has a long list of camps schedule this summer to try and improve his skills.

Birdyshaw is also making sure the Golden Eagles' program is for him.

The 6-foot-7, 300-pound Birdyshaw camped at Western Kentucky on Saturday and said he would also make trips to Louisville, Furman, Arkansas State and Southern Miss.

"It was a lot of fun," Birdyshaw said of the WKU camp. "It was a well-run camp and I enjoyed it a lot."

Birdyshaw said the schools he will camp at plus Mississippi State are schools that are showing him the most interest. He spent time at Mississippi State's camp last week. He said he's also hoping to camp at Alabama and Auburn.

"It was good competition," Birdyshaw said of the WKU camp. "The coaches told me that I did a good job and have a bright future ahead of me. They said to keep working hard and stay in touch."

Birdyshaw has great size and a frame that can hold more weight. He runs a 5.5 40-yard dash.
