Doughty named to Maxwell Watch List

WKU quarterback Brandon Doughty among 80 early candidates for Maxwell Award

Western Kentucky senior quarterback Brandon Doughty is among the 80 FBS players that have been named to the preseason Maxwell Award Watch List, the Maxwell Football Club announced Tuesday morning.

Doughty, one of 31 quarterbacks on the list, is among four Conference USA selections to make the group. Joining Doughty from C-USA are running backs Kenneth Dixon of Louisiana Tech, Devon Johnson of Marshall and UTEP's Aaron Jones.

The Davie, Fla., native was honored as the 2014 Conference USA MVP after being one of the nation's prolific passers. His 4,830 passing yards and 49 touchdowns led the nation and he led WKU it's first FBS bowl victory. He enters the 2015 season as the nation’s active career leader in passing yards (7,800) and touchdown passes (63).

Doughty becomes the third Hilltopper to garner Maxwell Award consideration, joining former All-Americans and current NFL running backs Antonio Andrews and Bobby Rainey.

Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced November 2, 2015, while the three finalists for the award will be unveiled November 23, 2015. The winners of the 2015 Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on December 10, 2015. The formal presentations of this award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by Tropicana Hotel & Casino Atlantic City on March 11, 2016.

WKU opens the 2015 season on Thursday, September 3 at Vanderbilt. The Hilltopper's home opener is slated for Thursday, September 10, when Louisiana Tech visits Smith Stadium.
