It was an upbeat Saturday morning at Houchens-Smith Stadium as the 2015 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers conducted the program's annual media day.
Brohm on off season conditioning: "Coach Lovett and his staff have done a great job getting our players in position to be ready to start the season. We found a lot of things that we needed to improve upon during the off season, one of them is that we needed to put on mass weight, with strength."
During the off season, the returning 70 players added a combined 336 pounds. Led by junior defensive lineman Kalvin Robinson, who added 31 pounds and climbed to 250 on the scales, the Hilltoppers defense has bulked up considerably during the off season. WKU's starting defensive tackles, Bryan Shorter and Devante Terrell added 17 and 22 pounds respectively.
Brohm on the importance of improving on defense: "When you look at Conference USA, even though it's known as an offensive league, six out of the last eight conference champions have led the conference in total defense, so we feel like we are going to be much better on defense, as well. I feel like we've added a few key components to the puzzle and players that played last year have gotten bigger and stronger, and I think are more prepared."
