Point guard Tobias Howard will make an official visit to Western Kentucky on Oct. 16

Western Kentucky University will get an official visit next month from Suwanee, Ga., point guard Tobias Howard. The 6-foot Howard made an unofficial visit to Bowling Green last month. He played AAU ball for Stackhouse Elite.

The Western Kentucky University basketball staff has made a move in recruiting on point guard Tobias Howard, a prospect with roots in Georgia who now attends West Oaks Academy in Orlando, Fla.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Howard has an offer from the Hilltoppers and will make an official visit on Oct. 16. He was on campus last month with his family and is being recruited by assistant coach Chris Shumate.

"We enjoyed the unofficial, so we are coming back for an official," his father, Tobias Sr., said. "He looks like he would be a good fit for the style they play. Just knowing the winning atmosphere there and the style of play was very intriguing."

Howard also has offers from Mississippi, Loyola, Ill., East Tennssee State and Louisiana Tech. Several other schools have been involved but the father said those are the schools that have been "showing the most" interest."

Previously a member of the Class of 2015, Howard is originally from Suwanee, Ga., and last season played at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. He now attends West Oaks Academy in Orlando, Fla., and was one of the top scorers for the Jerry Stackhouse Elite AAU programs.

"He can make shots and run the team," the father said. "He's going to bring a toughness and leadership. He's a scoring point guard."

The elder Howard said his family got to know Shumate, who recruited Harris' roomate at IMG - Romello White - when he was at Tennessee. The father said he has stayed in contact with Shumate.

"He's a really good guy and down to earth," the father said. "We've gotten to know him pretty good."
