Western Kentucky University's offense was rolling on Saturday on the road.
The Toppers went three-and-out on the first series but then found its stride and rolled to a 49-10 win over Rice at Rice Stadium in Houston. The Toppers are now 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in Conference USA.
WKU built a 28-3 lead and led 35-10 at halftime in the school's largest road win since 56-7 at Indiana State in 2007.
QB Brandon Doughty completed 28 of 38 passes for 409 yards and four touchdowns - to four different receivers. He now has 2,000 yards on the season and has thrown a TD pass in 19 straight games.
Running back D'Andre Ferby rushed 19 times for 58 yards and two TDs.
The Toppers finished with 504 total yards of offense. WKU will play Middle Tennessee at 11 a.m. next Saturday in Bowling Green.
Also on the offensive side of the ball, Taywan Taylor had six catches for 84 yards and a TD. He leads the Toppers with 571 yards and five TDs on the season and led the conference heading into the week.
Wonderful Terry, back from an injury, had his first interception of the season, while Price Charles Iworah had his second of the year. Linebacker Nick Newton recovered his first fumble of the season.
