Western Kentucky University has a new addition to the football roster.
The school announced on Wednesday that it has signed Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College defnesive lineman Chris Johnson, who visited Bowling Green last weekend and committed on Sunday.
Johnson is the first signee of the '16 recruiting class. The Toppers expect several mid-year high school enrollees in the next few weeks.
The 6-foot-2, 290-pound Johnson had 37 tackles and six tackles for loss to go along with a 41-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown as a sophomore at Gulf Coast. In his freshman season, Johnson piled up 25 tackles, one for loss and an interception.
A prep standout at Gulfport High School, Johnson had 76 tackles, three for loss, including a career-best 46 tackles during his senior campaign.
WKU has 22 commitments for the '16 class.
