Legendary coach Howard Schnellenberger has high praise for Western Kentucky coach Jeff Brohm

MIAMI - Former University of Miami and University of Louisville legendary head coach Howard Schnellenberger did the coin flip for the Miami Beach Bowl. He also heaped high praise on Western Kentucky coach Jeff Brohm, who played for Schenllenberger when he was at Louisville.

Howard Schnellenberger recruited Jeff Brohm to the University of Louisville and has remained close to the Western Kentucky University football coach every since. Brohm was an assistant for Schnellenberger at Florida Atlantic.

The two met again on Monday at the Miami Beach Bowl.

Brohm has his Hilltoppers in the game against South Florida and Schnellenberger, who still lives in South Florida, was at the game helping out the bowl folks with the coin toss. Schnellenberger was also heaping priaise on his former signal-caller.

"He's done an outstanding job," Schnellenberger said. "It's remarkable."

Schnellenberger said Brohm staying in Western Kentucky for at least one more season has put him in the "catbird seat."

"He's brought that program along and brought it to the point where their next move upward is going to be monumental," Schnellenberger went on. "He can throw that university into a stratosphere that they've never been in. There's no reason why Western Kentucky shouldn't have the capacity to be as great as the University of Louisville."

Schnellenberger pointed out that before he went to U of L that "Eastern Kentucky and Western Kentucky used to beat Louisville," and added later that Brohm "is on a course to do something special" in Bowling Green.
