Among the top prospects on the WKU radar during the final weeks of the recruiting cycle is Montgomery (Ala.) Carver wide receiver Xavier Lane.
The 6-foot-3, 192-pound Lane has remained in frequent contact with the Hilltopper coaching staff since the summer months and was scheduled to make his official visit this weekend until a winter storm postponed his trip for a later date.
"We've been talking since the summer," he said. "I took a visit up there during the summer, but didn't get to see much. I did get to see the facilities and a some of the campus and I kind of liked it. I like what their program is about and I like how their is offense is. I just felt like I should keep them in my mind and they've kept sending me letters and showing me love, so I thought I should take an official visit to see what they have to offer."
A three-star prospect and rated as the No. 3 receiver in Alabama, Lane has previously visited Troy and his trips scheduled for Toledo and Ohio
"I've been enjoying it so far," he said of the recruiting process.
While making his visits, Lane is looking for a program that will not only provide him an opportunity to excel at his craft, but also give him a sense of home.
"The biggest thing I'm looking for is that I want to feel comfortable at the school," he explained. "Another thing is that I want to have a great relationship with the head coach and my position coach to know that I can count on them, especially since I'm going to be so far from home."
With National Signing Day rapidly approaching, Lane is considering the possibility to make his college choice sooner, rather than later, but also "may wait until signing day because that's something that I've always wanted to do, to have something at my school."
Lane hauled in 40 receptions for 795-yards and 13 touchdowns, garnering All-State honorable mention accolades.
