The competition for Western Kentucky's starting quarterback has been a tight one since it started.
Mike White, Tyler Ferguson and Drew Eckels competed through the spring and throughout fall camp without one taking a clear advantage over the others. Each have displayed positive traits that have made the decision a difficult one. With the season-opener against Rice now less than a week away, it sounds as if the race has reached the finish line.
Hilltoppers head coach Jeff Brohm informed the media following his team's practice on Thursday evening that a decision has been reached and announcement is pending.
"We’ll probably have an answer tomorrow on that," Brohm said. "I think all three of our veteran quarterbacks have worked hard and have put in the time and they've all gotten better, and we're not afraid to utilize all of them."
While there is a comfort level with each, Brohm hopes the position sorts out where one takes the lead and keeps it throughout the season.
"We'll see how it plays out," he said. "Right now we want to make sure that the starter is comfortable and feels good, and can go out there and play loose, but we've got guys that are right behind him. Those guys will be ready to go and we'll probably have a small package for each of them in case they go in, but right now we're probably going to go with one."
