The competition continued longer than many anticipated, but the wait is now over.
As he indicated following his team's practice on Thursday evening, WKU head coach Jeff Brohm announced a starting quarterback on Friday afternoon.
Redshirt junior Mike White will be the starting quarterback when the Hilltoppers open the season on Sept. 1 against Rice. White edges out sophomore Drew Eckels and graduate transfer Tyler Ferguson for the starting spot.
"Mike has done a nice job preparing himself for this moment and operates our offense well," Brohm said. "All three of our veteran quarterbacks worked extremely hard and will be prepared if we call their number. On Thursday, Mike will be our starter and I'm excited for his potential to lead our team."
White transferred to The Hill following two seasons at South Florida where he started 15 games. White transferred to WKU following the 2014 season, but was forced to sit out a season due to NCAA transfer rules.
