Western Kentucky released its opening-game depth chart on Monday morning

WKU Insider provides a look at the Hilltoppers first game week depth chart.

WKU released its game week depth chart on Monday morning.

As announced on Friday, junior Mike White gets the start at quarterback, with Tyler Ferguson and Drew Eckels backing him up.

The first team receivers are Taywan Taylor, Nicholas Norris and Nacarius Fant.  Norris and Fant step up to help ease the loss of Jared Dangerfield and Antwan Grant to graduation.

Tight end has been a spot of tight competition throughout spring and camp and senior Shaquille Johnson gets the nod, with Stevie Donatell and Desmond Maxwell listed as reserves.

The starting offensive will be Forrest Lamp at left tackle, Brandon Ray at left guard and Max Halpin at center.  Right guard is Dennis Edwards with Darrell Williams at right tackle.

Defensively, the front line will be Derik Overstreet and graduate transfer Nick Dawson-Brents at defensive end, with Omarius Bryant and junior college transfer Chris Johnson at the defensive tackle spots.

T.J. McCollum is back to lead the Hilltopper linebackers.  He's joined by Joel Iyiegbuniwe and graduate transfer Keith Brown.

The open cornerback spots were grabbed by De'Andre Simmons and Joe Brown, with veterans Marcus Ward and Brandon Leston return at the safety positions.

Ryan Nuss and Skylar Simcox are both listed as first-team placekickers, with competition for kickoff responsibilities also continuing with Nuss, joined by Alex Rinella and Josh Cole also listed as equals on the depth chart.

Jake Collins is the first-team punter.  Nolan Dowling will handle long-snapping.  Collins will also serve as the holder.

Fant is listed as the first-team punt returner, with Kylen Towner as the kick off return specialist.
