Western Kentucky needed little time to eliminate any hopes that host Florida Atlantic on Saturday afternoon in Boca Raton, Fla.
The WKU offense amassed 661 total yards while the defense limited the Owls to 202 yards to fuel a 52-3 victory and improve to remain atop the Conference USA East Division.
Hilltopper quarterback Mike White connected for a trio of long touchdown passes in the during the game's first 20 minutes - 76-yards to Nicholas Norris, 54-yards to Lucky Jackson and 65-yards to Taywan Taylor - to build a quick 21-0 advantage. WKU added a Skyler Simcox field goal late in the second, with FAU converting one of its own just before the break for a 24-3 halftime lead.
A pair of third quarter touchdown runs from Anthony Wales, plus touchdowns throws from WKU reserve quarterbacks Tyler Ferguson and Drew Eckels in the final frame pushed the Hilltoppers to equal their highest-scoring effort of 2016.
The WKU defense faced an Owls offense that ranked near the bottom of nearly all statistical categories and played with a drive that kept FAU out of the end zone and didn't allow a third-down conversion until the games final minutes. FAU averaged just three yards per play and mustered only 77 yards through the air.
White finished 13 of 21 for 307 yards, marking his fourth consecutive game with over 300 passing yards.
Norris led all receivers with seven catches for 131 yards and the score. He now has 172 career receptions which lifts into second place on the WKU all-time list.
WKU hosts FIU at Houchens-Smith Stadium next Saturday.
