Playing in front of nearly 4,000 at E.A. Diddle Arena, Western Kentucky had five reach double-figure scoring to fuel a 87-79 exhibition win over Campbellsville on Tuesday evening.
Displaying a deeper range on the floor, junior forward Justin Johnson came off the bench to lead all scorers with 22 points. Johnson finished 7 of 10 from the floor, including 2 of 3 from beyond the three-point arc. He also grabbed 12 rebounds to complete a double-double.
Former Tennessee center, Willie Carmichael started at forward and notched a double-double despite making just 1 of 8 floor attempts. The 6-foot-8 sophomore connected on 9 of 10 free throw attempts to finish with 11 points, while collecting a game-high 13 rebounds. Enjoying a perfect night from the floor (4-4) and free throw line (4-4), Ben Lawson scored 12 points.
Graduate transfer Pancake Thomas added 17 points on 6 of 12 shooting to lead a trio of starting guards. Fellow grad transfers, Junior Lomomba scored 11 points in a team-high 37 minutes played and Que Johnson contributing four points in 15 minutes.
WKU shot 48.3 percent from the floor, while holding NAIA Top 15 Campbellsville to just 37 percent shooting.
It was the 22nd consecutive exhibition win for the Hilltoppers, who welcome Kentucky Weslyan for an exhibition contest on Saturday night.
