A look back at the series between Western Kentucky and North Texas prior to Saturday's game in Bowling Green

WKUInsider will provide a weekly look at the series between the Western Kentucky University and that week's opponent. Well, this week is a conference home game for the Toppers as North Texas visits Houchens Stadium.

It's a short series but one that Western Kentucky trails.

North Texas has a 4-3 lead in the series heading into Saturday's game at Houchens Stadium in Bowling Green. But the Hilltoppers have won three in a row and will be trying to even the series.

The series started with four straight wins by North Texas.

The Mean Green won 27-26 in 2007 and 51-40 in '08 in Bowling Green before a 68-49 win in '09 and a 33-6 decision in 2010. But since the renewal in 2001 it's been all Western Kentucky.

The Hilltoppers won 31-24 in Denton, Tx., in '11 and 25-24 the following season in Bowling Green. Brandon Doughty passed for 350 yards and four TDs last season in a 55-28 win by WKU.
