WKU head coach announces new tight ends coach

WKU head coach MIke Sanford confirmed the hiring of Ryan Mahaffey as Hilltoppers tight ends coach

First-year head coach Mike Sanford added another to his staff on Friday.

Ryan Mahaffey was announced as the new Hilltoppers tight ends coach.  Mahaffey arrives on The Hill following a season serving as co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach at Northern Iowa, his alma mater.

“Ryan is an enthusiastic, passionate coach, with intellectual horsepower and he will be an excellent addition to our coaching staff,” said Sanford. “As a recent player in both college and the NFL, he understands what it takes to play the game at the highest level and will be able to use that experience to connect with our players and recruits.”

Mahaffery worked with Sanford during the 2015 season at Notre Dame, serving as a graduate assistant there from 2014-15.  He spent the year prior at Northern Iowa as the tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator.

"My fiancé, Molly, and I are thrilled to join Coach Sanford’s staff and be a part of the WKU family,” Mahaffey said. “We are extremely thankful to be a part of such a great school with a supportive administration and welcoming community. We look forward to joining the rich football tradition at WKU, and we cannot wait to get to Bowling Green."
