Naperville (Ill.) North tight end Mitchell Lewis was among a recent group of prospects that spent time chatting with new Western Kentucky head coach Mike Sanford. During that conversation, Sanford extended a scholarship offer.
"It was really nice to get that offer," Lewis told WKU Insider. "I like the coaching staff a lot. They did it in a way I had never seen before. I had a FaceTime call with coach and we talked and he showed me a little bit of the facility."
At 6-foot-6, Lewis is also a standout basketball player and provides a view of the athletic abililty that he brings to the football field, where he's a threat in the passing game.
"He liked how I'm able to stretch the field and go up and get the ball," he said.
In addition to WKU, Lewis holds scholarship offers from Ball State, Buffalo, Wyoming and others.
"Tt's stressful, but I'm happy to be in this position," he said of the recruiting process. "I have no current visits planned."
Lewis, who claims no current favorites, hopes to schedule a few visits during the coming weeks and has a list of things that he's searching for in his future school.
"Good relationship, academics, good football, and a comfortable, home like (atmosphere)," he explained.
