Western Kentucky added a key defensive player on Sunday with the commitment of Calder Marria of Jonesboro, Ga.
The 6-foot-5, 225-pound defensive end was among the large group of recruits making an official visit with the Hilltoppers program over the weekend.
"It was a great visit," he said. "I liked everything about it. The campus was beautiful and I really liked the facilities. I really enjoyed getting to know all the other guys that are coming."
Marria, who had originally committed to Georgia Southern, told WKU Insider that his final choices came down to WKU and Conference USA rival Middle Tennessee State. He also drew heavy interest from Miami of Ohio, Mississippi State, Tulane and UAB.
"I wanted to be part of the winning tradition at WKU," Marria said. "It's a program that's on the rise."
First-year head coach Mike Sanford and his newly assembled staff played a big role in his decision.
"They are a well put together group and you can tell that they know what they are doing," he said. "I'm excited for the opportunity."
