Western Kentucky reached into eastern portion of the Bluegrass State to extend a new scholarship offer on Monday.
Painstville defensive tackle Tyrese Allen picked up an offer from the Hilltoppers, an opportunity that took him by surprise.
"I was just so happy and just couldn't believe that I just got an offer," he told WKU Insider. "I just pounded my chest and said thank you 100 times."
The 6-foot-4, 285-pound lineman recorded 65 tackles last fall, including 42 solo stops, while also proving effective on the offensive side of the ball. Also playing running back for Paintsville, Allen notched 28 carries for 184 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also three receptions for 65 yards and an additional score.
His ability to be a difference-maker on the field, especially his agressive style of play helped land the scholarship offer.
"They just said they love the way," he said. "I play hard nose football. Fast and downhill."

Allen, who plays on the Paintsville basketball team, also holds an offer from Tennessee Tech and is drawing interest from West Virginia, Louisville, Kentucky and others.
He'll visit WKU on March 4.
