Jacksonville, Fla., three-star QB prospect Riley Smith discusses his Western Kentucky scholarship offer

Jacksonville (Fla.) Bartram Trail quarterback Riley Smith has reached double-digit scholarship offers with Western Kentucky among his most recent.

"I was very thrilled," Smith said of the Hilltoppers strong interest.

Immediately upon receiving the WKU offer, the three-star prospect began to learn more about the school and football program.

"I did some research on the school and found it to be an amazing place," he said. "And coach Spurrier filled me in on the great atmosphere and coaching staff."

A 6-foot-4, 190-pound dual threat quarterback, Smith threw for 1,123 yards and 11 touchdowns, while also rushing for an additional 344 yards and two touchdowns as a junior.

His ability to create through the air and on the ground was a key factor in WKU's interest.  The staff has told the rising prospect that they like his comfort to "stand in the pocket and make plays, as well use my athletic ability to make something out of nothing."

In addition to WKU, he also holds includes Buffalo, Charlotte, Central Michigan, Coastal Carolina, Princeton, Yale among his scholarship offers.

"The recruiting process is stressful," he said. "I have learned patience is key. Also just working on becoming a better player will inevitably take care of the rest."
