With a frame that measures 6-foot-4, 235-pounds and an ability to create havoc along the defensive front, Mayan Ahanotu is a rising prospect that is drawing interest from coaches from throughout the southeast and beyond.
The Tampa (Fla.) Berkeley Prep prospect spoke with Western Kentucky linebacker coach Maurice Crum recently and was extended a scholarship offer.
"I learned they were offering me when Coach Crum and I we were talking for a couple of days," he said. "When we talked on the phone he told me they wanted to offer me. I was very excited because every offer is a great opportunity and I was blessed to receive an offer from Western Kentucky."
With a list of offers that also includes Boston College, Iowa State, Minnesota, South Florida and Southern Miss, Ahanotu is in the process of making visit plans, but is unsure of how it will pan out.
"I'm not sure yet," he said. "I am planning to sit down with my coach and family to see where I will be visiting."
Open to all suitors, Ahanotu is grateful for the opportunities that the recruiting process is presenting.
"I am just very grateful and blessed to have schools looking at me," he said. "I thank and owe it all to God and my family."
As a junior, Ahanotu recorded 54 tackles, including 15 tackles for a loss and three sacks.
