With Western Kentucky recently joining the group, Millbrook (Ala.) Stanhope Elmore offensive line prospect Jake Andrews has seen his number of scholarship offers climb to a dozen.
The 6-foot-3, 285-pound guard picked the Hilltoppers offer last week, which has him excited to learn more about the program that is on the cusp of having an offensive lineman selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.
"I haven't really built personal relationships with any staff at WKU yet but would like to and I'm possibly going up to Bowling Green sometime soon to do so," he told WKU Insider. "I was excited about the offer because for one, that's big time football and two, I know they've got a good coach in coach Dartt and they're also putting one of the best lineman in the draft in Forest Lamp."
In addition to WKU, Andrews also holds offers from three other Conference USA programs, plus Georgia Tech, Memphis, Troy and others.
"I don't think much of it," he said. "I enjoy it a lot and it's a great experience, but I think kids get too caught up in it nowadays. It's a slow process and I'm just riding with it right now."
When making trips to schools expressing strong interest, Andrews hopes to strengthen relationships with the coaching staff, learn more about the school and more.
In addition to abilities on the gridiron, Andrews is also a standout wrestler where he won the Alabama 6A heavyweight title in February.
"Wrestling helps so much with learning leverage, balance, hand placement, feet movement, and a ton of flexibility," he said. "I think wrestling gives me a little upside because I know how to use leverage against people because of my wrestling background."
