Pickett was released from his Letter of Intent with Illinois on Tuesday

Western Kentucky is looking to add more to its highly-rated 2017 recruiting class

Belleville (Ill.) East forward Javon Pickett received his requested release from a Letter of Intent from Illinois on Tuesday and almost immediately spoke with the Western Kentucky staff about the opportunity of becoming a Hilltopper.

The 6-foot-4 Pickett, a Scout.com three-star forward, requested his release following a coaching change at Illinois.

As a senior, Pickett set a new single-season scoring record at Belleville East last season.  He averaged 26 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists and two steals per game.

Located in the St. Louis area, he is a three-time All-Metro selection and was an All-State choice as a senior.

He also considered scholarship offers from Drake, Illinois State, Loyola-Chicago and others prior to his original commitment with Illinois.  St. Louis and Xavier were also among those expressing strong interest.
