Western Kentucky picked up another for the 2017 roster on Monday evening with safety Zerryn Gines announcing his intentions to become a Hilltopper.
Gines, a 6-foot, 195-pound athlete will join WKU as a preferred walk-on and will be part of the team's roster this season.
"When I went on my visit i just felt like I had been there already, and I felt at home," he told WKU Insider. "The atmosphere was perfect and most importantly the team is a family and that's what I'm looking to be apart of."
As a senior at Raymore-Peculiar, Gines totaled 95 tackles, with 54 solo stops, including five sacks. He also had a pair of interceptions and seven pass breakups.
He received a scholarship offer from Mississippi Valley State and a host of Division II programs in the Mid-America Conference. The opportunity to play FBS-level ball at WKU is something that he didn't want to pass on and is motivated to prove his value.
"I'm just so glad they did, and I will not let them down," he said. "I'm gonna work hard in the weight room and on the field to show them that it wasn't a mistake picking me up"
Gines anticipates arriving on The Hill on July 29.
