Latest notes from WKU football recruiting efforts

Topper Takeover continues through Friday

Here's a look at some of the latest football recruiting news from the week.

#TopperTakeOver

WKU head coach Mike Sanford has instituted a number of new ideas since arriving on The Hill in December and the Topper Takeover effort by the staff this week has to rank near the top.

Throughout the week, all nine members of the coaching staff have spent time crossing the Bluegrass State to visit all 221 football-playing high schools to strengthen relationships with the Hilltopper program.  With 41 in-state players on its roster and many more that have been key figures in the program's success through the years, Sanford and company wanted to further enhance their desire to have the best players across the state playing for WKU.

Sources within the program have told WKU Insider that the Topper Takeover effort has been met with excitement from the many high school coaches and players throughout the state.

That excitement has also been expressed by multiple high school coaches, with one saying that, "I know my players are excited about it and it has certainly grabbed the attention of many (in-state) coaches that I talk to."

New Scholarship Offers

WKU became the sixth program to offer Tampa (Fla.) Gathier offensive tackle Donovan Jennings.  The 6-foot-5, 310-pound prospect also holds offers from Conference USA rivals Marshall and Old Dominion, with South, Toledo and Virginia also in the race.

Conway, S.C. offensive tackle Raiqwon O'Neal picked up a Hilltopper offer this week, upping his total to more than a dozen.  O'Neal tells WKU Insider that he's currently "forming a good relationship" with the WKU staff and hopes to learn more about the program soon.  He also holds offers from the AAC, ACC, Big 10, Conference USA and others.
