Three-star safety John Huggins has been in frequent contact with Western Kentucky assistant Steve Spurrier, Jr., which recently resulted in a scholarship offer.
"They are real interested," he told WKU Insider. "Coach Spurrier and I have good talks time to time and they pulled the trigger, I was excited."
Rated as the No. 35 safety target in the South region and No. 107 nationally, the 6-foot, 195-pound Huggins had a host of college coaches eyeing him on Tuesday during his team's spring game.
"A lot of schools," he said. "North Carolina, Florida State, USF, Georgia southern, Western Kentucky, UConn, and more. It just gives me more of a drive to play even harder."
In addition to WKU, Huggins also holds scholarship offers from Appalachian State, Colorado State, Florida Atlantic, Marshall, Missouri, South Florida, Southern Miss, Syracuse, Temple, Wake Forest and others.
While his coverage skills are impressive, coaches are also impressed by his desire to make the tackle.
"I am physical and an imposing safety," he said. "Not a lot of people want to see me in the hole."
