Eagles Nip Broncos

Western Michigan couldn't over come an early six run deficit in dropping a 6-5 decision to Eastern Michigan in Mid-American Conference action Friday night from Oestrike Stadium. Despite the loss, WMU (14-18) remains in third place in the MAC West Division with a 7-6 league mark.

Eastern Michigan scored six runs over the first three innings behind three hits from 2B Tony Palazzolo and a pair of RBI from LF Jesse Cogswell.

The Broncos mounted a comeback in the fourth and fifth innings, highlighted by Kevin Kross' first career home run. Pitcher Brad Mumma went the distance, striking out seven, but suffered the loss in falling to 5-4 on the season. The performance marked Mumma's sixth straight complete game.

WMU continues its four-game series against EMU with a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Oestrike Stadium.

NOTES: The contest was WMU's last night game of the season ... RF Tom Fabrizio extended his hitting streak to six games ... WMU is 3-6 in one-run games this season ... EMU is the defending MAC West champions.
