Feldpausch Named to Academic Team

KALAMAZOO - Senior safety Jason Feldpausch (Fowler, MI/Fowler HS) has been named to the 2003 University Division Football Academic All-District IV First Team. The team is comprised of student-athletes from Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee who excel in football and academics.

Feldpausch carries a 3.32 overall grade-point average as a computer information systems major. His name will appear on the national ballot for the Academic All-America team to be announced Dec. 1.

The 5-foot-10, 210-pound Feldpausch stands sixth in team tackles (68) and third in passes defended (5) despite missing two games to injury. He posted a career-high 15 tackles at Michigan State and made 11 stops against Virginia. Feldpausch has also made the third-most tackles on special teams and blocked a punt earlier in the season.

"Jason is the kind of player you love to coach," said WMU head coach Gary Darnell. "He really exemplifies what our program is all about ? a guy who plays hard and takes care of his business in the classroom. He is a leader on and off the field."

A former walk on, Feldpausch was tabbed as the "most underrated player" in the Mid-American Conference by The Sporting News and is closing in on 250 career tackles. He was named the Broncos' Most Valuable Player during the 2002 campaign.

The CoSIDA academic announcement marks the second straight year Feldpausch has been chosen to the All-District IV First Team. In addition, Feldpausch is a two-time MAC All-Academic Team selection and a past recipient of the MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week Award.
