Broncos Sink the Lakers

In their first home game in four weeks, the road tested Bronco hockey team treated the home crowd of 2,070 fans to a 4-2 victory. Tonight's game marked the first game of a 7-game home stand.

The game was paced by the strong play from three freshmen. With goals from Ryan Marhle and Paul Szczechura and two assists from Kyle Bushee the Broncos were able to jump out to a 3-0 lead.

Mercyhurst was able to take advantage of a Jeremy Cheyne 5 minute major penalty for spearing late in the 2nd period. Cheyne was also given a 10:00 disqualification penalty. With one minute left in the period sophomore Dave Borrelli scored his 4th goal of the season on a one timer.

Freshman Kyle Gourgan added his third goal of the season when he put in a rebound with 18 seconds left on the same power play.

Senior Brian Pasko opened the scoring in the first period when his shot from the blue line beat goaltender Jordan Wakefield's glove. Dana Lattery added an empty net goal to close out the scoring.

Broncos' goaltender Scott Foster stopped 22 of the 24 shots he faced while Wakefield made 34 saves on the Broncos season high 38 shots. The Broncos were called for 5 penalties for 21 minutes compared to the Lakers 3 penalties for 6 minutes.

Both teams return to the ice Saturday night at Lawson, faceoff is at 7:05pm.
