With the success this past season Western Michigan freshman Tyson DeVree enjoyed it was only fitting that he hosted what could be the next standout tight end for the Broncos.
"Western Michigan was #1 in my mind going into the visit and the visit just pushed me over the edge," said Lecher. "Tyson was great and the facilities were just incredible. I've been to Madison (University of Wisconsin) and the facilities at Western are better in my opinion."
At 6-5 and 240 pounds, Lecher has the size and speed (4.8/40) that the Broncos desire at the tight end position to stretch the defense and also provide solid run blocking. Lecher is also a full academic qualifier.
Lecher, who plans to study Business at Western Michigan, says he has no plans to hit the field this upcoming season.
"I'm sure that I will redshirt and that is fine with me," he said. "It will be good to adjust to college and also get bigger and stronger before I am needed to contribute."
Lecher helped lead his team to an undefeated conference record this past season and a second round appearance ion the state playoffs. As a tight end he had 20 catches for approximately 300 yards and three touchdowns and also registered 120 tackles as a middle linebacker.
In the end, Lecher said he parents left the decision to him and they are happy with his choice.
"My mom just wanted me to go somewhere where I'd get a great education and she is very pleased with Western Michigan as my choice," he said. "The staff has been very nice through the whole process so I am very happy with my decision."
Lecher chose the Broncos over Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Northwestern and Northern Illinois.
