Engram Brimming With Confidence

When Warren G. Harding quarterback Alex Engram arrived on campus a couple weeks back he brought one thing essential to success – confidence. The true freshman does not lack the swagger needed to contribute early and we have the latest on his thoughts about joining the Broncos, spring ball and more.

With high profile schools like Kansas State, Nebraska, TCU and Syracuse among others on your trail you have to be doing something to impress college coaches. At 6-0, 202 pounds and 4.65/40 speed, Engram has enormous potential. So why Western Michigan?

"Coach Molnar was excellent in his recruitment of me," said Engram. "He told me what I needed to do to get to the league (NFL) and he was very convincing."

Engram committed shortly before the Christmas break (12/20/03) and enrolled at Western Michigan in time to start the winter term. He is rooming with fellow prospect Fernand Kashama (wide receiver) who also enrolled early. He talked more about his decision.

"I think I probably would have gotten more pub at a Nebraska or Kansas State but I really like it here," he said.

As a true freshman heading into his first spring football camp, Engram feels he can compete for the top spot.

"I didn't come here to sit on anybody's bench," he said. "I don't want that to come out wrong or anything but I feel I am talented enough to win the job and that is what I am going to try to do."

Engram has been trying to learn the Bronco offense since the day he arrived.

"I want to learn the play book and start this year," he added. "I'm just looking forward to the challenge this spring. We have a lot of talented quarterbacks here but I feel I can do that."

Engram says he plans to major in Communications and/or English while at Western Michigan University. As a senior at Warren G. Harding he threw for 1500 yards completing 120 of 180 attempts and had a staggering 19 TD/1 INT ratio. He also ran for 300 plus yards and four touchdowns.

Engram will have a chance to show Bronco fans and more importantly the Bronco staff he game this spring.

"I'll be ready," he added.
