Onaga Sold On Broncos

The Broncos traveled east to Holmdel, NJ for tight end prospect Mike Onaga and landed him as a verbal commitment following his visit on January 9th-11th. Western Michigan was Onaga's first visit and he saw all he needed to make his decision before he left Kalamazoo.

At 6-4 and 250 pounds, Onaga fits the bill of the big, physical tight end the Broncos covet. He was hosted by freshman Oseloka Keys and the visit went very well.

"I think the visit went very well and I really liked the indoor field they have," said Onaga. "It is a nice thing that you don't have to practice out in the bad weather."

Onaga chose the Broncos over Connecticut and New Hampshire despite electing not to visit anyone after Western Michigan. The Broncos made a strong impression on Onaga and he knew Western Michigan was the place for him.

"I committed on Sunday before I left," he said. "I really liked what I saw and felt comfortable with the coach recruiting me."

Tony Kimbrough is recruiting Onaga and he seems very comfortable with Kimbrough.

"He's a real nice guy and has been good to deal with," he said.

Onaga is a full qualifier academically (990 SAT) and plans to study Business while at Western Michigan.

Does Onaga have thoughts of stepping in as a true freshman as Tyson DeVree did a year ago?

"I'll do whatever they want me to do," he said. "If they need me I'll be ready and if nit I'll redshirt and be ready the following year."

Onaga also added that he plans to arrive in the summer to work out with the team before fall camp begins.
