Commit Q&A: Nick Varcadipane

Nick Varcadipane visited Western Michigan on January 9th and committed just days later to head coach Gary Darnell. We spoke with Nick about a variety of issues surrounding his pledge to the Broncos.

What schools did you consider before making your decision?
Only Western Michigan and Akron.

Who was your host on your visit to Western?
Eric Oleson.

What was it about Western Michigan that sold you?
I'd say the coaches, players, facilities, everything really. I think the complete package was very impressive.

Were you leaning to Western before your visit and the visit just cemented your decision?
No, I was very open and had no expectations leading into the visit but it went great and I knew then it was the place for me.

What is your current height, weight and listed 40 time?
I'm 6-3 and about 255 right now and last ran a 4.8 in the forty.

What coach is recruiting you from the Broncos?
Charlie Molnar.

Do you want to come in and get on the field right away next season?
My plan is to redshirt right now. I'll play if they need me obviously but I'm planning to redshirt.

What do you plan to study while in college?
Accounting.

Any other sports you play?
I play baseball. I play right field, first base and pitcher.

How did your team do this past fall?
We finished 5-5, not the best year.

Any statistics you know of off the top of your head?
I had about 80 tackles, 10 sacks and one interception I returned for a touchdown.

Are you a full qualifier?
Yes, I got a 1060 on the SAT and have a 3.2 GPA.

I heard your brother played briefly at Rutgers?
Yes, last year. He went out and quit after four days.

Did Rutgers contact you at all?
No, after my brother's experience I don't think they were too interested in me (laughing).
