Broncos Bitten by the Bulldogs

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (Jan. 30) - Ferris State continued its dominance of Western Michigan in Big Rapids, posting a 4-1 victory in Central Collegiate Hockey Association at Ewigleben Arena. The victory was FSU's fourth straight against WMU on Bulldog ice.

Ferris State built a 3-0 lead behind goals from Derrick McIver (10th), Trevor Large (3) and Brett Smith (12). Large and Smith stuck just 11 seconds apart in the second period.

Vince Bellissimo put WMU on the board at 14:53 of the second period, buring a wrister top shelf following a turnover in the zone. Any momentum the Broncos had was short lived as Derek Nesbitt answered on the power play at 17:28 to give FSU a three-goal cushion after 40 minutes of play.

WMU sophomore Eric Marvin started his first career game in goal (just his third appearance overall) and finished with 26 saves. All-American G Mike Brown registered 27 saves for the Bulldogs to earn Perani Cup No. 3 Star honors.

"We didn't play our best game tonight, which was disappointing," said WMU coach Jim Culhane. "We have to find a way to come back strong tomorrow night in our own building."

The teams conclude their season series tomorrow night at Lawson Arena (7:00 p.m. faceoff). A limited number of standing-room-only tickets remain for the "Blackout Saturday" contest.
