Coming as no surprise to anyone Detroit native Mike Williams, who won MAC Player of the Year honors, was awarded team MVP honors last night. The three-time MAC Player of the Week lead the team with 18.9 points per game.
Winning the award for Most Improved Player was sophomore Brian Snider. As a freshman Snider played in 29 games, all as a backup. His sophomore season saw Snider step into a starting roll, and roll that had him dishing out assists at a high rate along with being one of the top defenders on the team.
Reggie Berry, a senior guard and MAC sixth Man of the Year, won the team's Defensive Player of the Year award. Coming off the bench Berry averaged over 9 points per game and was often asked to defend opponents top players.
Ricky Willis may have a new nickname, or at the very least a new award. For the first time WMU handed out a "Mr. Hustle" award and Willis, who started all 31 games at point guard, was the deserving recipient. The Detroit native was among the team leaders in both assists and steals this season.
As a two-time All-MAC honorable mention and a member of this season's MAC All-Tournament Team, Anthony Kann received the Coaches Award. Known for his work ethic and tough play in the paint Kann scored over 1000 points and brought down over 800 rebounds in his career.
