Defensive Dual at Lawson

The Bronco hockey team competed in their annual intrasquad scrimmage last night with the Brown team falling short to the Gold team 1-0. In the goaltending and defensive showcase head coach Jim Culhane was pleased with the effort of the two teams.

"I saw a lot of positives in the game, the guys showed good work ethic and youthful enthusiasm," said coach Jim Culhane. "Regardless of the score, I'm pleased with how we competed."

The only tally of the night came off the blade of Mike Lesperance at 5:40 of the first period with assists to Vince Bellissimo and Jonathan Lupa. The goal was off of Lesperance's own rebound of a fanned shot that slipped by junior Scott Foster in net.

Goaltending was solid for the night with Eric Marvin (13-13) and Daniel Bellissimo (10-10) both going perfect on the night. Both defenses were able to shutdown the majority of the scoring chances keeping the shot totals to a modest 16-12 Gold team edge.

The Broncos will face off against Brock University in an exhibition match-up in the battle for the Steel Blade Trophy. Start time for the Friday game is 7:35pm in Lawson Ice Arena.
