Interview: Brian Snider

Brian Snider is a true freshman from Cadillac, Michigan that should see significant minutes this season. He talks about his preparation for the season as well as what the deciding factor was in choosing Western Michigan over rival Central Michigan and others.

What was your focus this summer to prepare for the season?
My main focus this summer was to prepare as best I could as far as lifting and adjusting to the college game the best I could to prepare to the speed of the game. It is definitely a step up from high school.

Are you satisfied with the progress you made?
I was pretty satisfied with my summer. I improved my quickness and strength and speed as well as adjusting to playing at the college level with the guys here. Overall I am very happy.

Why Western?
The last four schools were Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan and Drake. Everything here fit and I really felt comfortable with the coaches, the area, school and the guys here. The proximity was good so my parents can come to watch the games easily.

What are your thoughts on the MAC conference overall? I'm not real familiar with the personnel of the other teams but do know it is a conference starting to earn more respect and becoming very competitive. Last year Kent State showed they can go to the Elite 8 and that shows how competitive our conference is.

Does a tough conference help you prepare?
I think it gives me confidence but also is going to be tough. Every night you have to come prepared or you'll get beat. In the same sense if we can get to the NCAA tournament we'll feel like we can play with the bigger schools because we will be used to the tough competition.

What position(s) will you be playing this season?
As far as I know the shooting guard or small forward which is pretty interchangeable in our system.

Is this the same as high school?
I played the point also along with the shooting guard and small forward slot.

Any players really stepped up and "wowed" you this summer?
Mike Williams is a guy to look out for. He is real deceptive but he gets a lot of things done in there.
