Broncos Named to MAC All-Academic Team

KALAMAZOO — Junior safety Jason Feldpausch (Fowler, MI/Fowler HS) and senior center Jake Gasaway (Lowell, IN/Lowell HS) have been named to the Mid-American Conference All-Academic Football Team. Feldpausch and Gasaway were among 27 student-athletes from 14 schools chosen to the team.

Feldpausch carries a 3.32 overall grade-point average as a computer science major. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound defensive back was named WMU's Most Valuable Player after finishing second in team tackles (104) and passes defended (8). His five forced fumbles led the MAC and ranked 10th nationally in the latest NCAA statistics released Dec. 7. Feldpausch was an automatic qualifier for the MAC All-Academic Team last year.

Gasaway owns a 3.34 GPA that is being used towards a degree in marketing. Listed at 6-3, 282 pounds, Gasaway allowed just three sacks in 856 snaps and was named permanent offensive captain by teammates at the Broncos' awards banquet. He opened holes for three 100-yard rushing performances (Philip Reed-2, Trovon Riley-1) plus a 200-yard rushing day (Reed). Gasaway qualified for the MAC All-Academic Team in 2001.

This year's all-academic squad was selected, regardless of position, by the MAC Faculty Athletic Representatives based on academic and athletic achievements. The selection process differed from that used last year, when student-athletes automatically qualified by meeting certain GPA and participation standards.
