Broncos Nab Corner for the Future

At 5-11 and 183 pounds Lovejoe (Ga) standout defensive back DeRae Allen made his official visit to the Broncos a week ago and committed Wednesday. Allen considered several other schools but decided on WMU and gave coach Holliday his verbal on Holliday's last day as a Bronco coach.

"I really liked the visit and everything about the campus," said Allen. "I think I can play there and I just felt comfortable there on my visit so I committed to Western Michigan."

Allen possesses 4.40 speed and is a full academic qualifier (3.68 GPA/1090 SAT) making this prospect all the more attractive.

Allen says he plans on redshirting this season and then he'll be ready to compete.

"I definitely want to red shirt and get stronger and even faster so when it's my time I'm ready to contribute," he said.

He did not come on the visit alone, Allen's mother was with him and she was blown away on the visit.

"My mom just loved it," he said. "She was real impressed with the campus and all of the facilities."

Allen also participates in track where he runs the 200, 4x100, long jump and high hurdles. He is undecided on a college major.

He was hosted by Tony Carr and said he also considered Baylor, N.C. State, Wake Forest, Brown, Alabama State and Coastal Carolina.
