McFadden Raves About Commitment

Shortly after Detroit Pershing linebacker Darryl McFadden visited Western Michigan officially on the 10th of January, we caught up with his father for some feedback. Now we have some news from Darryl himself on why he chose the Broncos.

"I had an excellent visit for sure," an excited McFadden said. "I felt everything was first class. The field, facilities and everything was great. The indoor facility was real nice."

McFadden was hosted by Jerome Bloodsaw and said he was very impressed by the current Bronco players.

"I spent some time with a few of the players and saw the way they helped each other out and I liked that," he said.

Early playing time is not a factor for McFadden who said he plans to redshirt to improve his current 4.7 40 time. He also wants to gain strength and add to his current 245 lb bench.

McFadden is being recruited by coach Woods and he had some impressive things to say about the coach.

"He has been real honest and truthful to me from the start and that is very important and that is what sold me on Western," he said.

McFadden earned All-city, All-Detroit (east) and was 2nd team All-state this past season. He also participates in track where he runs the 100 meter dash and the 200 and 400 meter relays.

Was having fellow high school teammate James Blair committed to the Broncos a factor in his decision?

"We talked before my visit to Western and he told me if I really like it he was going to go where I went," he said. "I actually called James from Kalamazoo and told him I was coming to Western and he said 'I'll be there too then'," he added laughing.

McFadden did say he had one surprise during his official visit.

"When I met coach Darnell he recognized me from film," he said laughing. "I couldn't believe he came up to me and knew me by name. He must have had 20 guys there and he knew me like we have met many times before. He's nice and a good coach."
