Broncos Stop the Herd

Wednesday night in front of 2,345 fans at University Arena, the Western Michigan University Broncos hosted the Marshall Thundering Herd. Both teams gave the fans in attendance their money's worth in the second half in the Broncos thrilling 79-75 victory.

Despite shooting 32.3% from the field in the first half, the Broncos were able to go into the locker room at the half trailing by just two points. Anthony Kann led all scorers in the first half with 13 points. Mike Williams was just a step behind with 12 points. For the Thundering Herd, Marvin Black and Ronald Blackshear each had 8 points in the first half.

For those that were in attendance for the second half, the crowd was treated to one of the best half basketball at University Arena this season. The Broncos trailed by as much as 11 early in the second half before going on a run that saw them take the lead and then they exchanged the lead with the Herd before taking a 70-66 lead. There was also a technical foul on Marshall's head coach Greg White following a foul by Monty Wright near the basketball that coach White felt Rickey Willis should have been a traveling call on the Broncos.

Statistically the Thundering Herd would appear to have won the game, but thanks in large part to 19 offensive rebounds and 39 overall plus making 26 of 30 free throws, the Broncos came out on time in the only statistic that matters; the final score. The Herd shot .491 from the field, .409 from behind the three-point line, and .875 from the charity stripe. The Broncos shot .424 from the floor, .250 from behind the three-point line, and .867 from the free throw line.
