Allen Completes Bronco Class

Antwain Allen is a standout wide receiver from Kenwood Academy in Chicago, Illinois who signed with Western Michigan on February 5th. He kept his decision to himself until signing day and inked with the Broncos. We caught up with him to see what went into his decision process.

At 6-3 and 195 pounds Allen will surely help continue Western Michigan's trend of big, fast receivers. He is blessed with 4.55 speed and despite being courted by several Big Ten schools, he chose Western Michigan on signing day.

"It just came down to a comfort level with me," said Allen. "I felt that the team was a family on my visit and the whole situation was comfortable for me."

Allen officially visited Western Michigan on January 10th and was hosted by Walter Stith. The visit was not only comfortable but impressive to Allen.

"I spoke to the strength coach (Vezeau) a lot and when I checked out the facilities they were real nice," he said. "I think the facilities at Western were better than at Illinois."

Allen, who is a full qualifier, is participating in indoor track and is also lifting weights to get ready for next fall. He runs the 55 meter dash, 55 meter hurdles, 200 meter dash and 4 x 100 relay.

"I'm just getting myself ready with track and the lifting," he said. "I'm going to be ready when I get to Western."

Allen says he does not have a preference as far as redshirting or playing this fall. He will come to camp ready and when the coaches recommend he come.

"I'm expecting a call from coach Cummings and we're going to talk about the best time for me to come to Kalamazoo," he said. "If he thinks it is best for me to be there earlier in the summer then I'll do that or if he wants me to wait until August then I can do that too."

Allen says he chose Western Michigan over Wisconsin, Duke, Illinois, Minnesota and others but the Broncos were at the top of his list from the beginning.

"I got my film out late and a lot of the schools were talking about offering me and they wanted me to come but I pretty much knew I wanted to go to Western," he said. "They just have the total package as far as housing, academics and athletics."

When asked if he models his game after any other wide receiver he was quick to respond.

"Peter Warrick, #9 for sure," he said. "He's quick and has a burst and I've always liked the way he played at Florida State."

If Allen is anywhere near the talent that Warrick is, the Broncos will be lighting up the scoreboard with Allen in the years to come!
