Foster Rookie of the Week

Freshman goaltender Scott Foster (Sarnia, Ont.) of Western Michigan University has been named Rookie of the Week by the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. The announcement was made today by the league office in Farmington Hills.

Foster started both games last weekend (Feb. 21-22) versus Bowling Green, helping the Broncos earn three of four points with a 3-3 overtime tie in Kalamazoo and a 4-2 victory at BGSU.

The 6-foot, 185-pound netminder stopped 59 of 64 shots for a stellar .922 saves percentage. He allowed just three even-strength goals and was named Perani Cup No. 3 Star of the Game Saturday after making a career-high 32 saves.

"We're very proud of Scott for receiving this prestigious honor, especially so late in the season when teams are gearing up for the playoffs," said WMU head coach Jim Culhane. It's a tremendous honor for him and our program."

Foster has platooned in goal with junior Mike Mantua this season. In 16 games, Foster owns a 3.43 goals-against average and .880 saves percentage. He also sports a winning record at 6-5-2 having started 12 contests.

Foster's recognition marks the third rookie selection, and sixth weekly award, captured by the Broncos this season.
