Game Recap: Showing Hoos Boss

Follow along with Badger Nation's Drive Blog! Indiana put up a fight early, matching Wisconsin punch for punch, but the sixth-ranked Badgers scored 42-straight points, including three touchdowns in the final 5:01 of the first half, to turn this Big Ten contest into a 83-20 laughter at Camp Randall on Saturday.

MADISON – The final score was not an indication of No.6 Wisconsin's dominance against Indiana. It probably could have been much worse.

Wisconsin allowed Indiana to hang around with them through one quarter, but then turned up the heat, scoring 42 straight points to register an 83-20 laugher over hapless Indiana Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium.

Wisconsin (9-1, 5-1 Big Ten) pulled away in a second quarter highlighted by five touchdown on five possessions, three touchdowns in the final 5 minutes, 1 second of the quarter, Nick Toon's first touchdown reception.

One week after setting a new career high of 127 rushing yards in the game at Purdue, sophomore Montee Ball eclipsed it in the first half, with 20 carries for 145 yards and three touchdowns. Ball finished with 167 yards on 22 carries.

James White added 144 yards on 19 carries and two scores as UW pounded Indiana for 598 total yards (338 of which came on the ground).

Scott Tolzien rebounded from an off week at Purdue by throwing three touchdown passes in three quarters of work. Tolzien completed 12 straight passes at one point and finished 15-for-18 for 181 yards.

Defensively, Wisconsin held Indiana (4-6, 0-6 Big Ten) to 313 total yards of offense and created three turnovers, two of which were fumbles recovered by J.J. Watt.

Even freshman Jon Budmayr and junior Nate Tice got into the act. Budmayr flung a 74-yard touchdown pass to Jared Abbrederis midway through the fourth quarter for his first collegiate touchdown and Tice ran a naked bootleg 17 yards for the final points, giving Wisconsin a new single-game record for points in the modern era and tying the conference record for most points in a Big Ten game.

No.6 Wisconsin 83, Indiana 20

First Half

First Quarter

7-0 Wisconsin

5 plays, 65 yards, 2:24 TOP, 11:14 left

Montee Ball one-yard run (Philip Welch kick)

Key Play: Indiana struggles against the run, so it was no surprise that UW opened its first series with five straight runs. It was no shock either that the first two runs went for 41 yards. On the first hand off, Ball ran right up the middle for 23 yards and got a 15-yard facemask penalty on top of it, getting UW to the IU 27.

7-7

5 plays, 80 yards, 1:23 TOP, 9:44 left

Tandon Doss two-yard catch from Ben Chappell (Mitch Ewald kick)

Key Play: Indiana's conference-worst run offense surprised the Badgers with a 67-yard run around the right end of the line. Nick Turner turned the corner and saw nothing but a blocked cornerback, no safety and wide-open field. Aaron Henry eventually tracked him down at the UW 13, but it saved the score for only a few seconds.

10-7 Wisconsin

13 plays, 46 yards, 6:12 TOP, 3:22 left

FG Philip Welch 34

Key Play: On third-and-5 from Indiana' 43, Tolzien hit David Girleath on a crossing route, going for 10 yards and getting UW in field goal range.

Second Quarter

10-10

9 plays, 43 yards, 4:13 TOP, 14:12 left

FG Mitch Ewald 38

Key Play: Indiana's offense had been generating some good momentum on its last two drives, but the Badger Package blanketed the secondary on third-and-eight at the UW 31, forcing Chappell to scramble for only one yard.

17-10 Wisconsin

9 plays, 49 yards, 4:36 TOP, 9:27 left

Montee Ball one-yard run (Welch kick)

Key Play: On third-and-four inside the two, Tolzien threw the pass in the direction of Nick Toon in the end zone, clearing seeing cornerback Richard Council draped all over him. The pass interference penalty gave UW first down at the IU 2.

24-10 Wisconsin

2 plays, 66 yards, :45 TOP, 5:01 left

James White 30-yard run (Welch kick)

Key Play: Indiana replaced Chappell at quarterback with Edward Wright-Baker, a move that didn't look good after Wright-Baker fumbled the fake handoff, allowing J.J. Watt to bounce on the loose ball at the Indiana 29.

31-10 Wisconsin

5 plays, 29 yards, 2:31 TOP, 2:20 left

James White 30-yard run (Welch kick)

Key Play: Indiana replaced Chappell at quarterback with Edward Wright-Baker, a move that didn't look good after Wright-Baker fumbled the fake handoff, allowing J.J. Watt to bounce on the loose ball at the Indiana 29.

38-10 Wisconsin

5 plays, 46 yards, :46 TOP, :21 left

Nick Toon 4-yard pass from Tolzien (Welch kick)

Key Play: Scott Tolzien dissected the Hoosiers defense for three double-digit pass plays on the two-minute drill, but it was Kyle Zuleger's key block that sprung David Gilreath for a 23-yard punt return into Indiana territory.

Second Half

Third Quarter

45-10 Wisconsin

3 plays, 29 yards, 1:13 TOP, 13:38 left

Jake Byrne 2-yard pass from Tolzien (Welch kick)

Key Play: With IU refusing to kick to Girleath, Jared Abbrederis made them pay. The redshirt freshman weaved through traffic, shook off two tackles and went 51 yards down to the IU 29.

52-10 Wisconsin

4 plays, 41 yards, 1:49 TOP, 9:39 left

James White 2-yard run (Welch kick)

Key Play: The foot is still on the accelerator. Tolzien connected with Lance Kendricks for 19 and Bradie Ewing for 17 on back-to-back plays, getting UW to the 2.

52-13 Wisconsin

9 plays, 58 yards, 2:56 TOP, 6:37 left

FG Mitch Ewald 33

Key Play: Indiana is on its third quarterback and Dusty Kiel led them on its first scoring drive since early in the second quarter. Kiel lofted a perfect pass to Terrance Turner for 22 yards, getting Indiana inside the UW 20.

59-13 Wisconsin

8 plays, 62 yards, 4:23 TOP, 2:07 left

Lance Kendricks 11-yard pass from Tolzien (Welch kick)

Key Play: Even a holding penalty can't stop Wisconsin. After a James White touchdown was whipped off the boards, Tolzien had plenty of time in the pocket and hit Kendricks as soon as he broke off his route for the score.

62-13 Wisconsin

8 plays, 34 yards, 3:07 TOP, 12:12 left

FG Philip Welch 41 Key Play: With Jon Budmayr in, the offense isn't as explosive, but a 15-yard personal foul penalty by Indiana pushed UW into field goal range.

69-13 Wisconsin

1 play, 36 yards, :05 TOP, 11:19 left

Aaron Henry 36-yard interception return (Welch kick)

Key Play: A high pass from Dusty Kiel went off an Indiana receiver and right into the hands of Henry, who could have walked into the end zone if he really wanted.

76-13 Wisconsin

3 plays, 78 yards, 1:38 TOP, 7:26 left

Jared Abbrederis 74-yard catch from Jon Budmyar (Welch kick)

Key Play: What a play to throw your first collegiate touchdown pass on. Jon Budmayr hung in the pocket to allow Abbrederis to get a step on the receiver, but slightly underthrew the ball. It didn't matter to Abbrederis, who won the jump ball and outraced his defender for the score.

76-20 Wisconsin

5 plays, 80 yards, 2:51 TOP, 4:35 left

Duwyce Wilson 62-yard pass from Wright-Baker (Ewall kick)

Key Play: Wilson had an easy time getting to the end zone after back-up cornerback Josh Peprah slipped on his assignment.

83-20 Wisconsin

5 plays, 68 yards, 2:30 TOP, 1:57 left

Nate Tice 17-yard run (Welch kick)

Key Play: A nice reward for scout team quarterback Nate Tice. Instead of handing the ball off on third-and-four, Tice did the naked quarterback bootleg, got a great block from his receiver and scampered into the end zone.
