A Big Hill to Climb

To say Marlington (OH) HS athlete Alden Hill has had an impressive off-season is a huge understatement. Hill has picked up 11 offers during his recruitment, 7 of the BCS variety, but he was honest in saying that his school of choice is the University of Wisconsin? Are the Badgers as interested as Hill is?

MADISON - Alden Hill had it all planned out. Travel to Wisconsin. Receive an offer. Play in the explosive Badger running game.

That plan has now been erased and it is most likely permanent.

Hill, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound junior running back from Marlington HS (Alliance, OH) was scheduled to travel to Wisconsin this past weekend with the hope to earn an offer.

There was a last minute change of plans.

"I didn't end up traveling to Wisconsin," Hill told Badger Nation. "They told me the night before we left they weren't taking another running back, so I didn't make the commute."

Hill has started to make a name for himself around the country. He rushed for more than 2,200 yards and 36 touchdowns last season. That performance and strong camp showings have helped him earn 13 offers from the likes of Boston College, Illinois, Northwestern and Pittsburgh.

The Badgers had Vonte Jackson, a four-star prospect and the 27th-rated running back nationally by Scout.com from Kenosha Bradford HS commit during March and told him they wouldn't sign another player that can only play running back in the Class of 2012.

While Hill had continued to receive interest from the Badgers, it looks like they are sticking to those plans.

"Well the dream remains, but at some point you have to face reality and escape denial," he said. "I always wanted to play there and be a part of their offense, This is recruiting and it's similar to life. It's not fair. With that said I don't blame anyone. Coaches are doing their job and I respect that."

With Wisconsin dropping off his radar for now, Hill now focuses on a new group of top schools.

"My top five are Illinois, Boston College, Vanderbilt, Michigan and Connecticut."

After skipping out on Madison, Hill continued his busy summer in the state of Michigan and will continue his plans for the summer.

"I just returned from Michigan and Michigan State. Off to Ohio State on Saturday (6/25)."

The Badgers continue to recruit a number of prospect that could play running back in the future such as Dami Ayoola (St. Thomas Aquinas HS) and MacGarrett Kings (University School of Nova Sout), however all of them are able to play other positions, as well.
