Panos Kicks off 2014

One day after getting a scholarship offer from Nebraska, Hartland Arrowhead (Wis.) offensive lineman George Panos received the offer he really coveted. Following the UW staff offering him a full scholarship, Panos committed prior to the start of the spring game, making him the first commit in the 2014 class.

MADISON - Last spring Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln linebacker Vince Biegel grabbed the headlines by committing to the Badgers prior to the start of the Wisconsin spring game. This season, it was the son of a former UW offensive line legend that gave the UW coaching staff a kick start to the class of 2014.

George Panos, a 6'5, 290-lb offensive lineman from Hartland Arrowhead who has started his first two varsity seasons at the school, became the first verbal commitment in Wisconsin's 2014 recruiting class when he received a scholarship offer prior to the start of Saturday's spring game.

Panos received an offer from Nebraska Friday, but announced his intentions via Twitter that he was following in the family footsteps.

"I'm gonna be a Badger #livingthedream #OnWisconsin"

Panos' dad, Joe Panos, was the captain of the 1994 Rose Bowl team and played seven years in the NFL. Now, he's the offensive line coach at Arrowhead, and with his father's tutelage, it's no surprise George attracted early attention.

"He's a huge influence on me," he told of his father previously. "He's been coaching me since 5th grade, so we have really good communication. When he tells me something, I know what he means. He's taught me well. He's a good influence on me in life and school. He tells me to put grades in front of football."

Fox Sports will have more from Panos following the spring game
