Heritage (CA) HS senior cornerback and one-time Arizona commit Darius Allensworth will be deciding Thursday and the 5-11, 180-pound three-star corner is down to four: Arizona, California, UCLA and Wisconsin.
With the Badgers being the only Midwest school on his list, many would think distance might eliminate the Badgers from the running. Allensworth thinks otherwise, as his recent unofficial visit to the school opened his eyes.
"I just like they are in the Big Ten," Allensworth told Badger Nation. "I like their back-to-back Rose Bowls and back-to-back Big Ten champions. They just have a rich tradition and that is somewhere I could see myself playing."
Wisconsin's linebacker coach, Andy Buh, covers the West Coast and his relationship with Allensworth is nothing new.
"Coach Buh has been recruiting me hard since the end of May," said Allensworth. "I have a very good relationship with him. They are good people and I talk to Coach Buh every week, so me and him have a pretty close relationship. That is pretty cool."
Living on the West Coast, many haven't experienced the sometimes cold Midwest temperatures or have even seen snow. While that can affect some prospects, Allensworth is not letting that play into his decision.
"I really don't care honestly," Allensworth said. "My dad is from the Midwest, so I will go up there every now and then. I am kind of used to it, so weather isn't a factor with me."
Allensworth is doing what most guys are doing by committing early, which is putting his decision behind him to have his whole attention on the upcoming season. One thing he does know is that whatever school he picks, he is sticking with the decision this time.
"I want to decide because I just want to get it over with before my football season starts," Allensworth said. "I want to go into my senior season not having to worry about my recruitment and stuff like that. I will be done with recruiting and I will take my official to the one school."
