Bielema Offers UW Commit

Recognizing that the foundation of his success at Wisconsin was in-state players, Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema offered Hartland (Wis.) Arrowhead offensive lineman George Panos Tuesday, the fourth UW commit he has offered since switching jobs.

MADISON - After recruiting players to Wisconsin, Bret Bielema is trying to sway Badgers commits to his new school.

Failing to flip defensive end Alec James in the class of 2013 and not looking good on getting Monona Grove (Wis.) offensive lineman Jaden Gault to swap, Bielema offered Hartland (Wis.) Arrowhead offensive lineman George Panos Tuesday.

"I got off the phone with Coach Bielema and he offered me," said Panos. "He just talked to me (about) how he's always loved how I've played and how great Arkansas and his staff is."

The son of former Wisconsin captain and NFL lineman Joe Panos, Panos committed to Bielema and his staff last April, becoming the first verbal commit in the 2014 class. Now that a good portion of that staff went to Fayetteville with Bielema, including defensive coordinators Chris Ash and Charlie Partridge and strength coach Ben Herbert, Panos is familiar with the personal.

"I know lots of their staff very well with many of them coming from UW," said Panos. "I have a great relationship with Coach Bielema. He knows how to recruit that is for sure. Other than them being in the SEC, that's all I know about (Arkansas)."

Panos is expected to visit Wisconsin early next month for a spring practice. When asked if he was going to give any other school a serious look, Panos said it was still too early to tell.
