A state that has 11 natives on Wisconsin's current roster, the Badgers have made 12 offers in the state of Ohio, four this week and three on Tuesday. One of those offers was to Lima Central Catholic safety Darius West, a highly-sought-after target by the former UW staff who finally got his UW offer.
"It's a very good positive reaction to the offer because Wisconsin has been to the last three Rose Bowls and has won the Big Ten championship three years in a row," West told Badger Nation. "They have a great academic school and a nice atmosphere. The crowd is also amazing."
A four-star safety ranked No.18 in the country by Fox Sports Next, West now puts the Badgers in his top group and is planning a campus visit to meet the new coaching staff.
"I do plan on visiting Wisconsin and I'm looking forward to coming to a game this year to see how loud and electric the fans are," he said. "My top list right now (is) Louisville, Kentucky, Notre Dame, Michigan State, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Michigan, Indiana and Ohio State."
West has active on the recruiting trail to check out his offer list, which contains over 18 scholarship offers. Visiting places like Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan and Ohio State this spring, West is planning to make his decision sometime before the middle of his senior year.
"First of all are the academics," West said when asked what he's looking for in a school. "Then I want to see how early I can play. I also want to make sure I'm around a good environment and good coaching staff. As for distance, if I have to go far, I need to be in love with the school. I'd need to know everything about it."
